I got a Remington model 7400 30-06 semi auto. Last year during the deer hunt the chamber started to stay open after shooting, and i would have to push it shut and take another shot. So i took it in and had it professionally cleaned hoping that would solve the problem. Yesterday i was siting it in and it was still staying open. I looked in to see if i could figure it out, i think that the spring is getting weak. Im going out to Colorado at the end of this month and would like to have it in good working order.

What do you think the problem is?

Thanks

I put 5 bullets into the clip. Then i will put the clip in the gun, but i will pull the action/ chamber opening open then lock the clip up in. So i am loading a bullet, so there would be 4 of them left in the clip. Neither of my 2 clips will lock in the gun with 5 bullets in the clip.

Thanks

Try loading only 4 then chamber the top round leaving 3 in the mag. I've not had a 7400 that would not FTF with 4 in the mag with +1 in the chamber. This just puts too much drag on the top round coming outta the mag

As far as I know these mags will only hold 4 so if you're getting 5 you must be overstuffing the mag.

Ok, i tried it and it still is having problems. While its trying to put the top bullet in it locks partially open. The bullet will be going in but the action/ chamber opening will be open. Then i will hit it and it will go then stop about an inch from being locked and i will have to hit it so it will lock.

have you ever taken the rifle down for a through cleaning and action bar greasing

if that doeskin fix your problem you need a new magazine then

I have never personally. I just had it professionally tore down and cleaned but a good friend of mine. I have tried gun oil with no luck either. I'm going to get a new magazine tomorrow.

Thanks
