Remington 870 16 Guage

I am new at gunsmithing using what I've learned from my grandfather who was a well known gunsmith in the Greater Houston area. Passed away before I could absorb all of his knowledge and I was really interested in this field of work.

I am working on my buddies Remington 870 16 GA. Shotgun was missing Slide Block (Slide Assembly) when he gave it to me. It has been very difficult to find the part for this caliber. Can I use a Remington 870 12 GA Slide Block? Will it even fit and will it still function properly? Also I am not licensed so if anyone knows any suggested sites I can order detailed parts from please let me know.

Anyone can order from the Remington parts list. You go to their web site. Click on support, then parts informatin then down load the parts list. Call 800-243-9700 and follow the prompt to parts and order by that parts number.

However, how old is this weapon? There are two slides. A slide for older Wingmasters and then the new slide for 870's with the flex tab conversion. You need to know which one you need.
