remington pistol grip that uses shoulder stock question

Is it possible to use the stock equpment and just install a pistol grip?

I am looking to still have the buttstock but add the pistol grip as well. This would be for home defense as well as hunting. I have a remington 870 magnum express and have been having a bear of a time trying to find this info.


Im assuming that a pistol grip without the kit wouldnt be an addon to my buttstock and it would effectively shorten the rifle which is something im not wanting to do. I want to keep a buttstock for sure.

If you want a pistol grip stock then you should just purchase one made for it. Do you like your current stock a lot or something? To answer your question though, I do believe you can. I've seen people do it with a Mossberg 500.

Yes both of those would work, but i was wondering if it was possible to buy just a pistol grip and have it work in conjunction with my stock buttstock or if you need to purchase the full kit.


i am not attached to the original stock, just being frugal

I believe Hogue makes what you are talking about. In the end, as long as you don't want any recoil management built into the stock, you can get the whole set up for a little more than what you would pay for the pistol grip alone. Also, if you went for the whole set up, you get get an adjustable stock and fine tune it to the perfect your perfect LOP. Personally I don't care for the stocks with the springs built into them to control recoil. Some people like them but when I shoot them, I can actually feel some barrel whip. I have also been smacked in the face with one of them. While it did absorb a lot of the recoil, it made me bleed from my mouth.Blood was literally pouring out from my tooth puncturing the inside of my cheek. In my opinion, Mesa Tactical makes the nicest tactical pistol gripped stocks but not a lot of people want to spend $300 on a stock. I really like what ATI is doing now. They used to make crappy stuff but their new stocks are actually built very well. That company really turned themselves around. Everything from the nice packaging to the good product. Most of the tactical stocks being sold now for less than $150 such as the Blackhawk/Knoxx stuff is made completely of polymer where ATI is using aluminum. ATI is also using this new material in the butt pad and rear of the pistol grip which absorbs a lot of the recoil. I shot my buddy's and was very skeptical at first thinking that it would absorb no more than your standard limbsaver pad. I was wrong. It easily soaked up more recoil than any other pad I've shot with. I usually don't like shooting more than thirty 3 inch slugs each outing with a standard stock but I know I could have easily went all day using the ATI stock. I can do the same with my Mesa stock as well but that's using a hydraulic recoil buffer. The ATI stock is only using a certain material to absorb the recoil.
