Not sure if this is the proper forum, but I really don't know where to ask this question...

I have an inert 30mm dummy round. I accidently put some scratches on it, and tried to fix the problem by sanding down the casing with some 1000 grit sandpaper. Although the large scratches are gone, I made matters worse because now there are a bunch of hairline scratches and the original polished look is gone. Is there any way I can fix this and restore the shine?

Since the cartridge will never be reloaded, you might try some 4-0 steel wool and Brasso. I've used 4-0 for a variety of clean-ups and it's fine enough that it won't leave scratches. The Brasso will restore the shine. Once it's cleaned up, use some clear spray lacquer on it so you won't have to keep shining it with the Brasso, if someone handles it.

You might try the Brasso first without the steel wool and see if that works on it's own. If you use the steel wool, don't rub too hard; the Brasso should do the work, not the steel wool.
