Good evening everybody,

I received about 450 once-fired 30-30 WIN Brass. Out of those right at 50 were bent up pretty bad, the case mouth dented in and some were pretty well out of round down past the shoulder. Are these salvageable with a full length re-sizing die or just scrap them?

Thanks for your input in advance.
Zac

Run them through the F/L sizing die, and if you see any creases in the brass, I would toss that case. Otherwise, just load them like normal.

Since that would be a lifetime supply for me, I would scrap any I was unsure of.

Aside form that, hoghunting had some good advice. Hard to say without pics.

If there are no creases in the cases I would load up about a 90% charge and fire form them to your chamber. This will blow out any dents you have. Any that are questionable after that go in the scrap bucket as do any with creases befoe fireforming.

Thanks, I figure this is all the brass I will ever need for this rifle. I will see how it goes once I get some rounds loaded up.

I sometimes will take a punch or something similar to push out a dented case mouth, but they usually pop out in the sizer. I just figure it makes it more likely. Lots of guys, me included, don't worry about slight case dents, especially in lower pressure rounds like the 30-30 (not big honkers, as in through the shoulder and into the case body). I've been doing this for 40+ years, and though I am sure someone will tell me I'm going to shoot my eye out, I've never had an issue of any sort. Of course, if you choose not to mess with them, you are guaranteed to have no problems...
