Long story short, about 7 years ago a friend of mine was at my house, as we both have a common interest in firearms I was showing him my stuff. He saw my Dan Wesson .357. I told him that I had loaned it to my Dad while he was building his house (the house was back in the woods in the North Georgia mountains, there were bears in the area & he was 65 years old going out there working alone). When he gave it back to me it was in it's holster & it wasn't until some months later when I took it out & shot it (I had some handguns then but wasn't as interested in them as now) that I realized it was screwed up. The cylinder wouldn't advance properly & the rear sight was bent. My friend said he knew a guy that would fix it for me. I said I knew a gunsmith but he persuaded me to let him take it. That was seven years ago I think -he had lost touch with the guy doing the work (it was his buddys buddy). I have been calling and politely hassling my friend about getting it back for about 3 years but he couldn't get in touch with his buddy to get to the other guy. I got it back tonight.
It is a Dan Wesson .357 serial number 359xxx manufactured in Monsoon Mass. It had been so long since I had it I don't remember too much about how it shot. I dry fired it once or twice this evening & the double action trigger felt really sweet. The cylinder now advances properly but I need to find a rear sight. Will the same sight work for the .357 & .44 magnum Dan Wessons? I saw one on an auction site. Any information ya'all can give me about this gun would be appreciated.
BTW I bought it & a used leather holster for it back in the late 90's at a pawn shop for 75 dollars. If I can get the right rear sight I intend to use it as a woods gun. There are black bear around where I have been going hunting with my neighbor in middle Georgia. I don't plan on bothering them but I would feel better knowing I had a respectable caliber handgun available if I need it. I'll post a pic later if I can find the camera. Sorry for the long post just excited about getting my gun back & drank a little too much coffee.

They worked on my M15 last yr and did great work at a reasonable price. I talked w/ CZ/Dan Wesson at the Shot show in Orlando and they said they are fully servicing all the DW product lines.....
My experience w/ CZ/DW customer service has been fantastic!!

Thank You for the reply-I'm going to try to post a pic later today. The finish on it isn't perfect but When I found it it seemed to function properly & the rifling looked good. I figured I wasn't buying it to look at. I think mine is a model 15-2VH but I'm not sure maybe if I can get a pic up someone can help me out with that.

I said I'd come back with a pic-here it is. I know it isn't really pretty just a well worn but functional revolver in need of a rear sight but I'm glad to have it back DSCN0338.jpg [/IMG]

Also thanks for the replies. Anyone with more information-the correct model number etc. I'd welcome it.

Hello,
What you have is a Model 15-2

No, the sight for the model 44 won't work. You need one for the small frame guns.
The Millet sight jameslovesjammie listed is an excellent replacement.

The Dan Wessons are excellent guns. Glad you got it back.

I ordered the Millet sight. Midway was out of stock so I ordered it from Brownell's-more expensive but it's supposed to be in stock. Thanks everyone for the info.

You'll really like that sight. I only shot the gun once with it installed, but I would say it is comparable to any S&W white outlined sight...but with a little better click adjustment. I cannot say anything for the factory rear sight, since my sister's gun had an Aimpoint scope mount on it from about 1986.
