Revolver Crazed

Wheelgun vs age group. Is age a factor to the Revolver crazed?

27, 50:50 ratio. The only autos I own are .22's, but I'd really like to get a 617, so one of the autos might have to go!

I have 8 revolvers and 4 autos. A few years ago I found that revolvers just appealed to me more. I'll be forty in a couple of months. Back in the eighties and much of the nineties it was all about self-loaders, but somewhere along the line they lost the appeal and revolvers became king.

I'm 30 and I only have one revolver, a Taurus Tracker 357 mag and I love it. This thing is a tackdriver, the ported barrel tames the recoil, it just feels natural and solid in my hand.:D I've also got 2 auto's, but there is just something nostalgic and fun about shooting a magnum revolver. The auto's just can't match the experience, in my case.

I don't get it? I'm 51 and been a revolver fan since I was a kid. What does my age today tell you about me being a revolver fan?

I'm 26 in a few days too, and although I have more autoloaders, I have an infatuation with the revolver. I got rid of a 38 not too long ago (it was a Rohm .38, shot well, but I feared cylinder rupture) and will pick up a 44mag in a few weeks.

Mid-thirties here, and always been a revolver guy.

The only reason I am even considering a MK III or Buckmark is that the choices for .22 DA revolver are just so limited now. I *still* may just do a Single Six or Bearcat rather than go auto.

I am 50 and I shoot my auto's more than my revolvers, but I would not want to give up either one.

I'll be 50 in February. I first learned to shoot with revolvers. I started law enforcement (deputy sheriff) carrying a 586 4" revolver back in 1981. I reloaded and shot at least 200 rounds per week with it and I was happy.

One day I suddenly wanted a 1911 for duty carry and other pistols then followed. I didn't buy another revolver for years. Revolvers became cheap as heck on the used market because others were thinking the same thing as me.

As I've grown older I've returned back to my long lost love for revolvers, because I prefer them far more than the pistols that I own. Now I shoot my revolvers about 75% of the time vs. semi-automatics.

But oddly enough, I carry a Glock 29 as my every day carry gun.

I didn't vote in the poll because I just don't get the question.

You pretty much answered your own question- and intent of the Poll.

I expected that us Baby Boomers would be more inclined to lean more towards revolvers vs the twenty and thirty somethings. According to the poll its looking rather balanced out so far. I find that interesting....

I surmise that the auto-pistol market HAS to generate tons more revenue, hands down. And, I would think that the younger generation would favor the auto pistol as well.

Again, I'm 53, certainly not old. But I ain't young no more.

Thanks for your participation

I bought my first gun for my 60th, a 642. Great first gun choice. Easy carry in IWB, OWB and the most used Mika pocket. More range time the better I like it. Waiting for my first semi, M&P9c. However my neighbor was showing me his 686 & just loved the way it felt. Then I fired it at the range & now I'm hooked. Did anyone here ever fail in love at the shooting range?
I just love the simplicity of the revolver.

I will be 34 in a few days. I own and shoot many semi autos and have no problem with such. I do however find that the ubiquitous revolver just has so many simple advantages for both every day use and range fun. That combined with the fact that a good revolver with a proper set of wood grips is just a thing of industrial beauty.

So at the end of the day I own and I am comfortable with Glocks, SIGs, Rugers, plastic and steel but I have a Smith and Wesson 625-3 with a beautiful set of rosewood grips sitting next to me as I type this.

jframe- I have fallen in love at the range. The very first 1911 that I EVER shot was a Wilson Combat CQB. Talk about spoiling someone right from the get-go.

I'm 43 and have about 30 some handguns. Revolvers outnumber autos 3 to 1. Maybe we shouldn't say that the old guys gravitate to revolvers. Maybe we should say that the young punks just don't know they're cool yet.

I'm 54 years old and I own both revolvers and semi-autos. While I like my semi-autos and carry one for work daily... I have a strong preference toward the simplicity and fine synchronized workings of my S&W revolvers. :)

I'm 32 and I still like and use revolvers quite a bit though not quite as much as the old timers I'd say. Pre lock S&W revolvers are probably my favorite guns. I've known shooters of different skill levels in their teens and 20's that absolutely hate revolvers though I've noticed once they shoot a gun like a snub .357 that changes their attitude some and they think it's "cool".

I know a 35yo that likes revolvers much better. I'm currently using revolvers as hd pieces and my baby boom age father a Taurus PT92, go figure. My last gun purchase was a Ruger Blackhawk but I must admit I'm not a big fan of single action revolvers generally unless a giveaway price.

I'm 54 and started with a passion for autos a quarter century ago but that changed quickly. It's a matter of versatility, convenience, history, esthetics and attitude. Reloading for revolvers offers so much more versatility and is more forgiving. Also, each year the ground gets farther away and policing brass is not part of the fun at the range. It's so much easier to dump the cases into a bag on the bench. It may be a matter of aging (maturing?) but I'm not as enamoured with emptying a magazine in a second as I was in my 20's. Obviously a personal choice but I just think revolvers are neater looking and I like the feel. Finally, the history of firearms is a big part of my interest in shooting, over half my shooting is with black powder guns, and revolvers offer more of that.

The inventory: 11 revolvers and 1 auto (a Ruger Mk II mostly for the wife).

BTW, if I felt the need for sustained rapid fire I wouldn't hesitate to get a CZ 75B 9MM and some high capacity magazines. It's just not a factor right now.

Regards, Jeff

I think having an afinity twards revolvers has more to do with skill and need than age. Most of the newbies I have worked with have an easier time with light 38WC revolvers and 22 autos, but as soon as they get comfortable (or think so) they are dying to pick up an auto, and throw lead all over the target. A few years down the road, the raw power of revolvers calls to people, as do the timeless good looks, and the long smooth DA pull can help one master trigger control. If hunting is the game, there are not many autos that can be used, in MD, hanguns can be used to hunt deer, but 700lbft is the minimum, well in the range of big bore revolvers, but all but out of the range of most standard auto chamberings, I suspect hog hunting in the south may have similar regulations.

I have a S & W Revolver N, L , K ,& J frames
Favorite is the 625 in .45 ACP/.rt AR.
#2 is the Model 60 with +P .38 Spcl.
but my favorite and the one I shoot best
is my SW1911.

Hmm, pistol ratio, 2/3rds Revolvers 1/6
each for Semi-Auto and SIngle Shot.

My next handgun will be a 1911 or
Commander variant. I don't think a .22 LR is
in my future because the 617 puts the empties
in my hand.

I've got two holsters for the 1911, and one
for the 686P Next holster purchase will be
for the 625
