Anybody using a Powder INC cap & ball loader?

Do they work well?

How is the fit & finish?

Mine works great, well made, easy to use, stable platform. I have extra cylinders for all of my C&B revolvers and this tool makes for easy loading.
I bought mine 9 months ago when i first started shooting black powder, i have never used the loading ram on my revolvers.

For now you won't be able to purchase one from them as their boy was injured in that explosion recently. The next comparable loader is the Tower of Power from Big Lube Bullets' Dick Dastardly.

Why would you need this?

Im new to shooting blackpowder and im curious why this would be good?

Is it because it has a longer lever to pack them harder?

I've used the Powder Inc loader for many years.
Have two actually, but have not ever needed the back-up.

While I have not used one personally, I've heard from several trusted frontiersman that Dick Dastardly's loader is of excellent quality/

You won't go wrong buying either & either is a "lifetime" purchase.

I have one and it beats the heck out of loading on the gun. Thinking of making some attachments so I can load black powder shotgun shells.

Why would you need this?

The only people who NEED one are those who have the cap & ball version of the 1873 Colt revolver, because it has no loading lever or other means to load the chambers with the cylinder installed in the frame.

However, many folks, myself included, use it to load spare cylinders; others find it easier than loading the cylinder on the gun. Some feel it also provides more precise (or consistently repeatable) compression, which is important for accuracy.

It's a matter of personal preference, rather than need.

Someone infirm or weak may need the added leverage of these loaders not afforded by the revolver's lever.

They work great. It's quicker than using the loading lever on the gun and you can use a lot more force if needed to push a ball in.

It saves wear and tear on your loading lever and will not break if you use a lot of force.

At the range it keeps those around you who are unfamiliar with muzzle loaders at ease since you can leave your gun pointed downrange at all times while you load your cylinder separately rather than holding and sweeping your gun in strange manners and directions (as perceived by the uninitiated) while you powder and load it.

I prefere it to a loading stand which I belive can make accidently breaking your gun's loading lever much easier to do.

As pointed out earlier they are great for loading multiple cylinders (spares) and can be set up for different sizes and types of cylinders from a tiny pocket Remington to a Walker.

One quick look at the loading lever setup on a Remington New Army tells me I don't need a degree in engineering to figure out I could easily break it if I use too much force during loading.
