As the title suggests, my near-new and otherwise perfectly well-behaved Rock Island 1911 shoots a good 6 to 8 inches to the left at 50 feet. I realise that shooting left is a classic symptom of flinch, but I do not have this problem with my other .45s or with my 10mm. I really do think it's the gun.

The fixed sights seem well-centered on the slide and nothing obvious seems amiss when the gun is field stripped and examined. Is there something easy that I can try, or does this require a trip to the 'smith?

My RIA did the same thing. I think I just tapped the rear sight a tiny bit. Then, the more I shot it , the more it improved. Mine was posssibly operator induced. It does much better now that I'm used to it.

The rear sight should be able to be tapped sideways in the dovetail to shift it as needed. If the gun shoots left for you, move the sight to the right (the direction you want the bullet to go) a little bit.
