This came in the VCDL alert earlier today. I don't think I can make it to the party as I have a b-day party of my own for my daughter to attend to. If anyone else can make it, you're sure to have a great time.

We had 133 people who came to hear Alan Gura speak last night!

I opened the meeting by showing a US flag that VCDL member Chris Pugrud had flown on a combat mission over Bagdad on July 4. Chris donated the flag to VCDL to thank all of you for your great work defending our freedoms here in Virginia!

Guys like Chris continue to amaze me and make me proud to be an American. They are out there laying their lives on the line to protect freedom and they still find the time and make the effort to do something like this.

I gave the flag to my Delegate (Lee Ware) to see if he could now have it flown over the General Assembly. Delegate Ware is checking into just that and hopefully I will have it back soon so it can be proudly displayed at future meetings.

Chris had a second flag flown over Bagdad for Alan Gura, which I presented to Alan as he came up to speak.

I was also given a t-shirt by Board member Bruce Jackson which reads, "If you don't like my gun rights, you can go straight to Heller" :)

Alan signed the shirt for me - talk about a great keepsake!

*** I plan on bringing that shirt to Senator Ken Cuccinelli's Heller Victory Party at Fuddruckers here in Richmond tomorrow (Saturday) at 4 PM. The restaurant is at the intersection of Broad St. and Parham Road (8205 West Broad). ***

Alan gave a fantastic talk, which was professionally taped by VCDL member Matt Gottschalk and will be available on the VCDL site in the near future (I'll send out an alert).

Alan spent an hour with a question-and-answer session and he fielded questions until we we ran out of time.

Over 50 of us, including Alan, headed over to Fuddrucker's for fellowship.

A great time was had by all!

The idea of 50 people showing up in open carry at Fuddruckers on a Saturday afternoon is too funny! Be sure to take a few pics and post them. Even better, maybe it will make it into the RTD.

I can see the headline now:

ARMED MEN SWARM FUDDRUCKERS: Burgers and fries served

:)

I was there on the weekend of the 4th OCing and the Mgr hardly batted an eye. He asked if the gun was real, and then took my order. I'm guessing it won't be that big of a deal...I'll be there if I can make it. I doubt my schedule will work out though.

The problem is:

1) there should be well over 50 people there, and

2) it's been done before, and never made the news.

Seriously, as much as the folks in the Richmond area get together in groups both large and small, we cannot seem to get anyone to throw a hissy fit.

The best that happened lately was someone Open Carrying on the local bus near downtown. The cops ran around more trying to figure which bus it was on which bus route. Once they located the proper bus they forgot how to surround it and swarm in with weapons drawn - or maybe never decided to try. Cop (1 - not a whole swat team) got on and saw everything was cool, and exited. No fuss, no tickets, no lectures. Press statement later that day discussed the legality of Open Carry and hinted that folks calling the cops need to provide more info than merely "OMG He's got a gun :what: !!"

stay safe.
