What's rifles are available that shoot the 45acp? The only one that I'm really aware of is the Beretta Storm but to my knowledge 7 round mags are the only ones available.

I'm mainly looking for a fun/HD gun. 45acp is because that's all I'm reloading at the moment which means that its the cheapest ammo for me.

The Marlin Camp Carbine has been made in 45 but if you are looking for something hi-cap I don't know of anything.

Rhineland Arms Conversions

There are a couple of neat conversion kits available from a company named Rhineland Arm (www.rhinelandarms.com). They are inexpensive if you've already got the base firearm.

They offer the following conversions in 45 acp:

(1) Enfield (all models)
(2) Mauser
(3) FAL (Thompson or M3 Grease Gun magazine)

A Google search will get you a few articles on the above. I am planning to build the Enfield conversion on an old clunker No.4 Mk.III I have.

oly makes a 45acp ar15. the one i fired just felt WIERD, but the owner loved only hauling one type of ammo to the range.

The classic Thompson "Tommy Gun", made by Auto Ordnance, a subsidiary of Kahr Arms, is a good choice. It also takes the 30 round USGI clips.

A long time ago (20+ years) I saw a neat little .45 carbine and inquired about it. Price was a bit high for me at the time. Was told it was a "Fox Carbine". Looked neat as hell, and IIRC fired from an open bolt.

Wonder if any of those are still kicking around.

I have a Marlin camp 45. Good gun and you can get 15 or 20 round mags for them, but IMO there are better choices for HD. .45 ACP doesn't gain all that much from a ~16 barrel, and handgun rounds tend to perforate barriers such as walls much more effectively than small caliber rifle cartridges. If you're looking for a HD long gun, I would stick with an AR or some other .223 caliber autoloader. Much less risk to your neighbor.

The Tommy is heavy and bulky. Vector has an Uzi with a 16 in. barrel in .45 acp for 600.00. It is fun to shoot and has a collapsable stock. Also Special weapons is making an MP5 clone in .45 for 800.00.

I just finished my AR 15 in .45 ACP that uses Grease Gun Mags. Feels just like an AR but shoots 30 rds of .45 ACP. This has just replaced my Camp carbine as my #1 fun gun to ashoot steel with.

If you look over on AR15.com and the Cav Arms industry forum there is a big long thread about it.

MechTech?

Has anyone seen the carbine kits made by Mechtech Systems? These take a stock .45 and you just more or less put an upper with at rifled barrel in it. It's neat looking and it can be done on Glocks to.....

The ones I have handled seemed clunky and Hi-Point-ish. kind of expensive too, considering that you basically are guying half of a gun. And they're not very pretty, to put it mildly. IMO, there are better .45 ACP carbines out there.
