A quick head's up . . . today (Sunday, Dec. 18), Ronnie Barrett is scheduled to be a guest on Tom Gresham's Gun Talk (radio show). Barrett recently has been the victim of a nasty hatchet-job by an Associated Press reporter, and he'll have the inside story on how that came about. Barrett has built a reputation for standing up for his beliefs, even when it means refusing to sell his rifles to government agencies which lie to get gun bans passed. It should be fun.

Barrett is scheduled for 1:00pm CENTRAL time.

In another hour, we also will have the president of Armalite on the show.

To round it out, we'll have a fellow who runs the biggest gun company in Oregon. They make 50,000 guns a year . . . rubber band guns!

It should be fun. You can listen online by finding a link at www.guntalk.com.

Sounds like a awesome show coming up. Too bad I'll probably have to wait for your mp3 download to hear it.

This time of year, Sirius has football games on when you're supposed to be on. I'll try to be near my computer in a couple of hours for the streaming but I need to finish my Christmas shopping today.

Sirius needs to get the NFL their own channels instead of using 144 & 145. Maybe after Howard Stern starts up they'll have money for more channels.

Merry Christmas

Ronnie is a good guy.. I wish more companies would refuse to sell their products to governments that make such products illegal for their citizens. I mean, wouldnt it be nice if all the major handgun companies refused to sell handguns to San Francisco PD ?

Did you catch that he announced a new cartridge? It's the .50 BMG necked down to .416. A 400-grain bullet at 3300 fps. And it functions in the Barrett rifles.

I caught the piece, he sounds like an upstanding guy. I like that he's standing by his principles with the CA BS.

Now if I could just afford one of his rifles.

Jubei

Barrett is an American hero IMO. I wish more business owners would/could stand up like that. He's putting his own butt and that of his company on the line for what he believes is right.

I hope to repay him by sometime purchasing one of his products if I am able to.

I wish he could call the cartridge ".416 Californian."

And bullets.

We should have the show posted later this week.

We actually have to MAIL a CD across the country to get this done.

<shrug>

I know it’s been mentioned before, but I would strongly recommend buying something from Barrett. Most of us can’t afford a .50 :( , but most of us can afford a t-shirt or a hat. I recently purchased two shirts, one of which is under the Christmas tree for my father, to show my support for what he is doing.

First, let me say, "Thanks!"

Second, FTP is your friend... :D

Yeah, FTP.

We have to MAIL the audio CDs to someone who then converts it to MP3. We are not mailing an MP3 file.

Please don't take this the wrong way - BUT - Huh?

There's all kinds of freeware available that will convert audio to MP3 and lots more you have to pay for. Most are very easy to use.

I understand some folks aren't real comfortable with computers (still) but geeez! This is the 21st century after all.

Or there may be some other reason for sending a CD across country to have it converted to MP3?

Just seems a bit silly to me...

Well, I can understand the "huh?"

I convert audio files all the time on my Mac.

But . . . .

When I do the show, I'm in Louisiana. The studio is in Ohio. It gets sent, live, to New York, where it is sent up to satellites, which beam the show down to radio stations, which beam it to radios and internet streaming. In the case of Sirius radio, they capture the satellite signal, run it through their system, and shoot it BACK up to space, where it is sent down to their subscribers. Whew!

So . . . when I do the show live, the studio in Ohio is recording the finished (mixed) program on audio CD. They then make copies of those CDs the next day, and mail one to a very fine volunteer in California who rips the audio CD and uploads the MP3 file.

Now, I could get the studio to do this, but that would cost me about $200 a week. Times 52 weeks a year, well, that starts to add up. A fellow could buy some nice guns for that.

And, since there is no revenue stream to offset the archives, and I pay for the bandwidth (and the studio, and the satellite service, etc.) out of my pocket, I'd rather not spend an extra 10 grand a year so folks can get the show, for free, a few days earlier.

See? You knew there was another reason. <grin>

It warms my heart to see the words "on my mac" Why does the studio charge 200 bucks for what takes a cumputer literally minutes even for several hours. I can rip two hours of mp3 and upload in less than 10 min. Or is this some convoluted process they got themselves locked into and haven't bothered with a solution yet because they don't see a problem?

Thank you to Mr. Barrett for your awesome products...even though i can't afford them at this time.:( i would like to ask Santa for an M468 if thats not too much for you, sir...Thanks anyway from an admirer of your contribution to our love of firearms...Keep up the great job and may you be with us for a long time to come. Merry Christmas to you and all at Barrett's...

Caught the streaming version and thought it was a great interview.
Ronnie is definitely one STAND-UP guy. Like alot of the rest of y'all, I'll be getting one of his rifles one day,as for now the shirt idea is a good one.
