I have seen several pics on the internet of people who use rubber innertube on their grips for better purchase.

Here is my stupid question: what type of innertube is it and where do you get it? I was in Lowes's this morning and did not see anything but I wasn't really sure where to look.

I'd recommend a 26" mountain bike tube, they're significantly larger diameter than the skinny road bike tubes, and will not need to be stretched as much to slip over most pistol grips.

Go to Tractor Supply and get a can of "Anti-Monkey Butt Powder" - works great for mounting tubes in motorcycle tires - should help on tight-fitting handgun grips too.

Also has 'other uses'.....

Near where I live, there is a bicycle shop that does repairs. I asked the man doing the repairs and he gave me an innertube with a hole in it that he was throwing away.

cool idea, I'll save my mtb bike tubes. would be a good idea to slide one over a wood grip for shooting and keep the wood grip for looking.

I use skateboard tape as well on some of my handguns. I really like it on my 1911.

I bought a new AR-15 and did not like the way the pistol grip was checkered. I put some innertube on it today and it is much better, IMO. Saved me about $30 on a new grip, that's almost a hundred rounds of Russian .223.:)

Back in the Stone Age.... there was a trick to carrying a sidearm without a holster up under a tucked in shirt. All that was needed was one or two thick rubber bands around the grips, the gun was then slid into place in a cross draw position inside the waist band under the tucked in shirt. That method was considered "old school" when I first heard about it in the early seventies... and it worked surprisingly well. The rubber bands kept the handgun from sliding down once it was in place.
