Ruger GP-100 in .353 Casull

Ruger chambered the Blackhawk for .357 Maximum, but dropped it due to bad back strap cutting and forcing cone erosion problems. I'd think, if I wanted that sort of power, I'd move on up to .41 magnum and live happy. I already have a .45 Colt Blackhawk and you can REALLY push that round in a FA, or just get it in .454 Casull.

I mean, why try to hotrod the .357 if you need more gun? Just get more gun. I kinda don't see the point. You can get a 24 ounce Titanium Tracker in .44 magnum, but I'm not sure I wanna be pullin' the trigger on it. LOL! In a lighter gun, .357 is all I really need or I'll move up to my .45 Colt Blackhawk if I need more. It don't weigh any more than a 4" GP100, a little over 40 ounces, 4 5/8" Stainless. A blued Blackhawk is a couple ounces lighter due to the aluminum grip frame.

MCGunner - I see your point, but also disagree. Your right about "why not just get more gun" like a 44, or even a 500 S&W, but you have to consider the cool factor of a one of a kind custom. I once looked into converting a .357 revo into 9mm and people kept telling there was no advantage to it. But I wasn't looking for an advantage. I was looking for a kick ass one of a kind custom revo.

By the way, is the 45 colt hotter than the .357? I'm not sure it is.

What .45 Colt? Factory ammo that can run through a vintage SAA? No.

Doubletap stuff for Rugers, T/Cs, and F.A. only? YUP! 335 gr. at 1,300 fps is pretty hard to duplicate with any .357 loading.

Hodgdon lists a 4227 load for a 360 gr. slug at nearly 1,200 fps.

And these are keeping "sane" pressures far below the .353 Casull is pushing.

P.S. -- I do feel your love of the "why the heck not!?!" cool custom revolver. I'd love to own a 5-shot .44 Spc. Gp100 that can handle 1,200 fps. loads! And, I think a custom SP101 bored out to run 9x23 in moon clips would be drool worthy...though I'd need a j-frame done the same way just so I could debate with myself which one I needed to carry that day. But when your brass is destroyed after one shot, and there is extreme top strap erosion ... some how it looses the "fun." Like the gun is beating itself up. I'd rather have something I could enjoy for a lifetime. IMHO.
