I just got a new Mark II and I need to mount a 30mm red dot scope on it. The scope has integral weaver mounts so I need a weaver base. However I notice that some weaver bases require you to remove the rear sight.

I would like a base that does not require the removal of the rear sight. So, first of all, does a sight like this exist? And if so, what are my options?

Just a note, I don't need this to be a see-through mount. I just want to avoid having to tap-out the rear sight, to be honest. Thanks!

I bought one from Natchez's- this is the part # BQ42874. It mounts to the 3 predrilled holes in the slabside bull barrel of the target model. No need to move the rear site. With the scope removed you can still even use the sights.

I had to dremel down one of the mounting screws because when I tightened it it interfered with the action, other than that it was perfect. Seems real solid.

Check out Brownells

Brownells sell bases for the MKII. I personally like the ones made by Weigand. If your receiver is drilled and tapped then this one will work fine. If your receiver is not d/t then you need one of the "no gunsmithing" mounts like this one . The last one does require removing the rear sight, but thats no big deal.

The SoLow mount suits 30mm (only) and is for me the ideal fix for my red dot (Bushnell). This on 22-45 but suits MkII the same. Admittedly rear sight has to go (no biggie - easy job) but otherwise - well worth while IMO.

Hey I was wondering, how do those compensators atatch to the end of the barrel?

Remove front sight by undoing screw - install (slide on) compensator and use supplied screw - short Allen head countersunk - that screws into old foresight screw tapping. Needs some Loctite to stop loosening. Quick and easy.

I've used the Weigand on my MKII. It's an excellent mount. Never had any problems with loss of zero. Rear sight does not need to be removed.

I had the Weigand on mine, but WOW that thing is tall. If I had to do it over again the SoLow's would be on there.

Then again, my 22/45 came with excellent adjustable sights so I took off the red dot after a while.

My competition bullseye .22 has alway been a Mk II. I sent the latest one off to Broken Gun Ranch and had the receiver grooved. My Ultradot goes on with no mount at all. The setup is also lighter, and the Ultradot is closer to the bore axis. I did have to remove the rear sight but with my eyes I'll never use it anyway.

Leupold use to make a grip panel replacement scope mount base. I bought one 2-3 years ago. Just replaces one of the factory plastic grip panels. Can still use the iron sights. Sits a little high but I like it.
