I've got an SR9c and have been generally pleased with it. I've been wanting to move to a .40 S&W carry gun that I usually carry IWB in a Kohlster. My personal preference is to have a gun with a manual safety.

Any thoughts as to how the SR40c and the PX4 Storm Compact model compare to each other (other than the price difference)? I know the Beretta is a little thicker than the Ruger, but I'm a big guy and would have no problems concealing either on me. Has anyone got some real world experince at the range in shooting these guns side by side that could share thier thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your comments!

I currently have a SR40c, and have shot the PX4 compact. Personally I didn't like how the Berreta felt in hand. I found the Ruger to be more accurate, but that may be due to the fact that I have several thousand rounds through it. And like I said, the Beretta just didn't feel right to me. YMMV

Thank you SFreed. I know what you mean. I've tried holding both side by side in a local gun store and although I do like the ergonomics of the PX4 Compact, when comparing the two, the SR40c continues to win me over with its thin profile. It would seem to be somewhat easier on encroaching on my fat roll when carrying this pistol IWB.:D

Anyone else with thoughts on the PX4 Storm Compact? Thanks!

I am not a .40 aficionado but a Px4 SC in 9mm is my main CCL pistol carried Appendix in a High Noon Hidden Ally. I picked and carry the 9mm version of the Px4 SC (and have shot the compact as well) and think the gun is fantastic.

If I was a little bigger in the middle I might not like it so much but that's true of any pistol carried Appendix - it works better if yer a little thinner.

But I think very highly of the Px4 and train a lot with it.

I have the px4 sub compact in 40 and love it. It fits my hand well and I think the double action trigger pull is very smooth. The sight are bright white dots that make it target acquisition easy. I have a viridian ctl attached to it and carry it iwb 4 0'clock and owb, depending on my mood. The recoil is less then you might think and follow up shots are easy with some practice of course.

After checking out every compact polymer frame 9mm. pistol I decided on the Ruger SR9c. I thought that it's grip frame was the most comfortable in my hand, the trigger was very good, and the sights were very easy and quick to acquire. I also liked having the option of using the frame mounted safety.

The PX4 is the softest shooting polymer service pistol I've ever fired in .40. They're outstanding guns -- easily the most underappreciated poly pistol on the market, in my opinion. The Beretta is superior in fit and finish and overall build quality, though the SR40 is fine on that count.

The actions are obviously different. Are you comfortable with DA/SA?

I own a PX4 Compact in 9mm an I love it. It is very easy to shoot well. I also like the rotating barrel design.

I went to the local gun store on Tuesday and held both guns. Both have a really good feel to them. I think for my use and carry mode, the Ruger may work out better for a couple of reasons. The overall thickness of the frame and slide (and also the width of the safety & slide lock controls) are slightly less with the Ruger than with the Beretta.

I will probably wind up getting the SR40c as I already have the SR9c and it works well for me in this regard. However, I won't completely rule out the PX4 Storm Compact and will probably wind up getting one sooner or later as a range gun.

Thanks for those who've replied! If there are any others, keep them coming.

My wife has a PX4 Compact in .40, and it's one of her favorites. It shoots well, handles well, and in contrast to one of the other comments, I personally love the feel in my hand. My only caution is not to underestimate its poor concealability: it's remarkably chubby compared to its profile.

Been a very happy PX4 owner for 6 years. I helped a friend choose an SR9 fullsize as his first gun.

I think both guns are good guns that would work well. I think the Beretta is a better gun.
