Wow, BCCL, those grips with that beautiful color case hardening really looks nice! I actually think the Ivory/American holly grips look better on a blued gun, because of the contrast.
They sure complement each other and you have a 6 shooter to really be proud of.
I love the case hardened color of the old models, and I'm kicking myself for letting my Sheriff's model go. I'm having trouble finding any OM's, everything is the new weaker framed NMV in SS:banghead:
How is the project coming? I have a 12" diameter piece of AH I have dried and cut. It's time to resaw to blanks. I have seen some AH grips that look better than ivory to me.
Here's a old set of Ruger stag grips on my Vaquero.
I've got some holly grips, three pairs if I remember right. They're beautiful and even yellow with age but IMHO, they're too soft for sixgun grips. They dent and ding much more easily than walnut, maple or cocobolo.
Unfortunately, it's tough to get the detail in a picture.
Antique paper micarta has become my favored ivory substitute.
