I found this large knuckle duster type Bowie marked "S.O.F. CONVENTION 92" on one side and "LAS VEGAS NEV" on the other side.

Scabbard is marked ---E.D.M.F. #157 7/92---

Anyone know anything about these knives? Also got any ideas on value?

I was there in Vegas at the convention but did not see these knives for sale.

I don't like knuckle-buster guards, but Dale Sandberg's knives hold an edge a long time. Not sure about value- Dale's knives are surprisingly inexpensive, but I think his wait time was over 6 months, last I heard.

It SOUNDS like a convention souvenir that they either sold at the convention, or in the Magazine or both.

EDMF= Eight Dollar Mountain Foundry. Known for his cast aluminum guards, and big, tough choppers made from saw blade steel at very fair prices. Reviewed in SOF, as well as several other magazines, maybe 14 years ago.

In this case, pictures won't actually help. I know what you've got looks like, I just don't know what you could ask for it. To put it in context, a knife with a 12" blade and sheath, delivered, was less than $115. It was a heck of a deal, and Byron and Al bought one after they saw mine.

I dunno, John, there might be something about it that is enough different we'd recognize some additional value other than the labeling.

Under $150 but over $100 would be my guess. Someone who was a merc-wannabe might be convinced to pay a bit more for the "cache'", but folks that know the EDMF knives know that you can buy them from the maker.

Regardless of original price, there's enough of a delay when ordering from Dale that a new EDMF could probably get 30-50% more than Dale sells them for.
