S&W 442 question

On a 442 J-Frame 38sp+p Moon Clip version, do I have to use the Moon clip or can I load the cyl. with loose rounds if I choose? There looks to be a pretty good gap under the rounds If you leave out the moon clip.

If it was properly modified?
No moon-clip needed.

The cylinder is cut with metal left between each moon clip finger to headspace off the cartridge rim, with or without a clip.

It is a factory Moon clip version.

Well, it should be very similiar to this.
Towards the end it shows loose rounds being single loaded

The factory moon-clip M442 does not require the use of moon-clips. It is optional for fast reloads...
