S&W 500 Question

I looked at a S&W 500 that had a hole in the frame right above the cylinder latch.Is this a lock?I hadn't noticed this on other S&W 500s.It was an 8 3/8 bbl with a blank muzzle break.

Yep it's a lock. All newer S&W's have them.

Did the first 500s have a lock?Or just the newer ones?

Yup. they (and all newer S&W since..what, 1997 maybe) have the locks.

Some grips can cover them up, so maybe you saw an example with different grips...?

This one had a round hole above the cylinder latch.I've never seen grips that go there.
