I recently picked up one of those Smith & Wesson 686-6 7-shot 5" barrel "Stocking Dealer Specials." It was fitted with Hogue grips by the previous owner, but I'm looking to return to the Ahrends wood grips that it came with from the factory. I like Hogue grips (I have them on my 92FS and LCR) but I can't see this revolver without the Ahrends wood grips.
If anybody knows what model they would be (round butt, square butt, retro or tactical), I'd greatly appreciate a heads up so I can order them. I know they were cocobolo, but that's about it. I just don't wanna drop $100 down on some grips only to find out they're the wrong ones. Figured I'd see if anyone out there owns the same model and can point me in the right direction.
If anybody also knows what the big difference is between the standard polyurethane finish and hand rubbed oil is, please let me know.
I appreciate any help.
