I'm having a bunch of fun shooting my 990L. But I'd like my wife to get interested in it. With the small grips, it's just her size.

But....the slide is really stiff. Not sure she can manage it as easily as she can some of my other pistols.

Is there any way to reduce the amount of strength it takes to rack the slide back without effecting the gun's performance.

Also, is there a way to smooth out the trigger...take some of the grit out and perhaps lighten it a pound or two (its at 7 1/2 now) to make it a bit easier for her to shoot well?

Much appreciate any suggestions.

Your only hope for a lighter spring would be to contact Walther and see if they offer a lighter weight recoil spring assembly. For the DA pull, I don't think there's going to be much you can do short of sending it out to someone who really knows these guns. Honestly, I don't know who to trust when it comes to really 'smithing the P99 family.

All in all, I'd suggest having her hold & dry fire a P99 and/or PPQ. The trigger will be light years ahead and she'll still have the small back strap option. For the time and money spent, it may be wiser to sell off the S&W and grab a Walther.
