Hi all, I have a Ruger Security Six .357 w/4" barrel blued. I absolutely love the gun. I would like to know what older S&W revolver would be the closest match. I'm toying with the idea of adding a S&W to keep my Ruger company. Thanks!

Model 13, 66 (stainless). The k-frame Smiths are the equivalent models to look at. Various models chambered in .38spl and .357, choices of blued steel and stainless.

My 3" and 4" Service Sixes next to a 3" S&W 65 (the 3" are both very similar in overall dimension and weight). S&W 66 has adjustable sights, like a Security Six, and the 65 has fixed sights.

The S&W model 19 .357 with adjustable sights, would be the exact equivalent to your blue Security-Six .357. The model 19 is the blued duplicate of the model 66(stainless).357 that gwnorth had indicated above.

The S&W equivalent to a:
1. blued Security-Six would be the M19
2. stainless Security-Six - M66
3. blued Service-Six - M13
4. stainless Service-Six - M65

The .38spl chambered Service-Six would be the M10HB
The 9mm chambered Service-Six would be the M647
The Speed-Six would be the equivalent to the round-butted M13/M65/M10/M647

Back in the 70's Ruger advertised the Security Six and compared it to the S&W 586/686. Later Ruger compared the GP100 to the 686. You can still find the full page ads on evil bay. Ruger used a cute Hamburger(S&W) vs Steak(Ruger) ad. S&W came out with a counter ad, I don't recall the exact line but it was cute.

I agree with some of the above posts. The Ruger Six-Series revolvers and the S&W K frame revolvers are similar.

Too bad neither are still in production...
