Have any of you had any problems with the M&P9 2.0 with the 5 inch barrel ? I have watched a few videos on this model and a few of the reviews seem to show it having trouble feeding and choking on a few rounds. I have an M&P 2.0 in 9mm and 45acp but they are the 4inch barrel. Do the 5 inch barreled models that have the longer slide have real problems or is this just internet video junk ? Any help or information is appreciated.

The M&P was initially sold only in 40 caliber and was designed around that round. They did have some serious issues when they introduced the 9mm version. Our local city PD wanted to go with that gun in 9mm but they had lots of issues with the samples Smith sent them. They eventually decided on Glocks.

But that was the original version. By all accounts the issues have been resolved. Even before the 2.0 version. Are you sure the guns in the video's are the newer 2.0 version?

yes the pistols were 2.0

We have lots of reports from folks with all kinds of pistols with problems with cheap, weak, 115gr ball ammo. I'd review those videos you've seen and note if the problems were 115gr ball ammo.

I seem to notice that too. It seems that 115 gr 9mm ammo these days are loaded very weak. Barely enough sometimes for the slide to cycle rearward enough. I have a pair of Canik pistols and they run great but I have seen others with new Canik's have to use heavier 9mm for a box or 2 and then they run well. I think they were designed for the hotter over seas ammo.

That does seem to be the work around. Hotter ammo early, if you're having a problem, but after a hundred rounds or so, you can use the cheap stuff.

Note, G34's have their slides lightened to the point where they weigh the same as a G17 slide. I don't know if the 5" M&P's have that done.

Mine has been flawless with fmj, HP and cast swc.

I have a Colt 38 Super with a 9mm barrel fitted to it. Most ammo worked fine with it. With some cheap stuff I had to put a 13 LB spring in it to get 100% functioning. I believe the stock spring was 14 lb.

Thanks for the help everyone. I went back to take another look at it. I took the slide off and examined it well. The only cons were the rough texture. I could get around that like I did with my M&P 45 2.0 by sanding it. I thought it would be cool to have this gun as a twin to my G34. I got to looking closer and the FDE color was peeling off around the front dust cover where the "windows" are at on the these newer 2.0. I thought the FDE models were molded with the FDE color and not painted or Cerakoted. It was peeling off and you could see the black polymer underneath it. I'll try to attach a picture of this. I checked the box and the SKU number and this was a 2022 manufactured gun and it was FDE colored from the factory. The SKU showed it all correct as a FDE gun.

Pretty sure those windows are metal reinforcements as part of the 2.0 upgrades.

yes I know that , but what I'm talking about is the color or paint peeling from that area and the black colored polymer underneath it around the edges. It shows how the color is peeling off so dang early. It's only a year old. I thought these M&P's were molded with the color like Glock's FDE models are.
