A local rifle range fellow has a no-dash model 38 in just about flawless condition for sale, wears a Pachmayr combat grip, action feels above average. $400.

I don't really need another J-frame but it's not like that's ever stopped me before. Fair price, great deal, pass?

Thanks.

Any gun is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If its worth 400 to you; pay the man. I'd be asking for the original stocks, though, or do a little deduction.

I would pay $400 for that particular Model 38. See if he has the original box and grips, but not a deal breaker.

If I didn't already have one, I would be buying it in a heart-beat. If the place negotiates, give it a try since it doesn't have the original stocks but if they are firm, just 'pay da man
. just my two cents. YMMV

Before you buy, open the cylinder and look at the frame inside (under the barrel, where it's thinnest). In the last few years I've seen a Model 12, a 37 and a 38 with a hairline crack there, parallel with the bore.

Just saw one 2 days ago, in 85-90% shape going for $369 at my LGS if that helps you decide. This LGS runs a little high on his used guns.

I would buy it. Information abounds on the Net about how to examine a used revolver. If not worn internally, I think $400 is a good buy.

I hate when that happens. I feel your pain as it has occurred for to often to me as well (usually on the second day of a gun show).

Thanks for the empathy bannokburn, I feel a new revolver spirit in the works, this one will pass it's lost spirit onto the next :)
