Hello, I'm new to this Forum.
Does anyone have any info on S&W Model 39 ? I have a friend who wants to sell his to me. It has a steel frame so it must be a early one. Thanks

Is there a number after the '39'? Like '-2'?
It is funny. I wanted one for the longest time but couldn't find one. When I found one, I didn't like the way if felt in my hands - I want it proportionately wider. Then I found one everywhere I went.
They are accurate guns, from what I have read. If it fits you, I'd get it.

This is a model 39 with a steel frame no -2. The price he wants is under $300

As was posted earlier steel framed model 39 (No dash) bring upwards of $1000 on gun auction sites , if he is gonna be 'generous' and sell it for $300 to you GO FOR IT !

The steel framed 39's are worth a considerable premium over the standard alloy framed ones because there are very few around and were only made very early in the production years of the 39. There were less than a thousand of them made in 1966. I would guess they are probably around $1,500 or more at 100% condition in a recent blue book. I have an older one that values them at $1,200.

Sorry HKM but I think I will be picking this one up.
I did't know they were worth that much :) I can't go wrong at that price.
I will try to post a picture when I get it. He said it has light holster wear and comes with 2 mags. I will be getting it tomorrow I hope.

The S&W model 39 and 39-2

are my all time favorites in 9m/m caliber. These weapons fit MY hands
extremely well, and the one's I have owned were surperb in every
respect. Wish I had another one~! If your bud wants too sell an
"all steel" model 39 for less than $300; you had better jump on it~! ;) :D

My wrist would be sore getting my wallet out, buy it now.

It is a good gun, if it has noticable wear, it could be shot some but not much. They did have a feed problem that was worked out in later dash models.

Thanks, I should be picking it up today :D
The actual price will be $280,
Can anyone here tell the year made by S/N 1050xx
This gun does have noticable wear, it was used as a service gun.
I did not pick it up yet I want to take a better look at it to make sure it's not too worn.

My friend looked again its not a steel frame. Looks like I wont be getting this one.

PRR,
All Model 39-2 are Alloy Frame pistols but it is still worth ~$400 to $500 so if you buy it for $280, it's a good deal. Don't worry about a little holster rash as long as it shoots well.... Don't pass it up for that price.

It was a 39 with no -2.
I found a this nickel 39-2 which I picked up yesterday.
