I have several Taurus pistols, including two G2Cs. I've been blessed to have zero serious issues with any of them. I also own a S&W SD9 (black slide/ "ghost gray" frame). I shoot all of them about the same. I will say I feel a bit more confident with the SD9 in hand due to the ergonomics. Not saying they're better than the G2C, just a preference.
Either will serve you well.
Have you considered the Stoeger and their STR line?
STR full size (15+1) go for around $250 NIB (only one mag), cheaper if you shop around.
STR9 compact (13+1) for around $238 (only one mag) <--- I have two of these. Bought one, was amazed at the value, and purchased a 2nd.
STR subcompact (10+1) for around $240 (only one mag)
They all come with different package options, such as additional backstraps, additional magazines, and/or cut for optics. Of course, the price will reflect those upgrades.
As much as I like my Taurus G2Cs and SD9, I would choose either of my STR9c pistols over either of these any day (simply because I find them far more ergonomic and shoot them better).
They also have a STR9F 17+1 and STR9 "Combat" 20+1 models, but prices go up for such models.
