SA Milspec shooting left

I brought my brand new milspec to the range yesterday and all my shots where hitting about 3-4" inches to the left. I was the only one at the range so I asked the range master if he could shoot my pistol to see if it would shoot left for him too, sure enough it did. I let him move the rear sight to the right with a brass punch and we both shot at the target and were dead on. We were shooting Winchester WB ammo.

However, He had to move the front sight over quite a bit and this makes me wonder if there actually is something wrong with the barrel or something, and it looks kind of goofy to boot.

Congrats on your new pistol. Springfield Armory makes excellent 1911's. I have three.

Nothing unusual about having to adjust the sights a little on a new pistol. I take it you meant "rear" sight 'cause that's what the picture is of. Anyway, if drifting your sight fixes the POI then that's great. Things could have been worse and your pistol could have shot low or high. You can't fix that with a brass punch. In any case, neither of the POI problems is usually a symptom of a bad barrel especially if it's so easily fixed.

BTW, your pistol looks like the GI model rather than the Mil Spec. Mil Specs have lowered ejection ports, raked cocking serrations, and are missing the lanyard loop on the butt of the grip. GI models are excellent pistols and more closely resemble the original WWII era product. Great shooters, too!

Thanks for the reply Bluto. Actually it is a Milspec model, I took the pic at a weird angle so the serrations look less slanted. Well I am going to keep shooting it and see how it goes, I am just surprised the rear site had to be moved so far to get the correct POI.

Better yet. I should have noticed the stainless barrel. Does yours have a serial number that begins with an "NM" prefix?

All three of my Springfields are Milspecs. I had one modified into a target pistol, but the others shoot almost as well in their unmodified state. Simply fantastic pistols if you take the time to "bond" with them.

I had to drift my GI sights about the same amount in the opposite direction. Unfortunately it seems that SA's lower-priced models are having QC problems.
