SAA CCW Rigs

Very nice setup! I like a little flair and individualism, and a single action screams it. Used to think the character in the TV show "McCloud" was stupid back in the 70's; a western sheriff packing a SAA in NYC, but now I think it is cool. You have to be just a little better, a little more confident, to use a single action for defense....you don't get to spray and pray. I have a Sparks holster for my Ruger .44, but haven't yet made it a daily carry. I'd like to get the Montado sized Ruger and a slightly different holster if I do, but that is down the road.

savit260 Is that a Simply Rugged? Do you have any pics of that combo worn OWB? I'm interested in seeing how tight it holds the butt in.

Yup, that's a modified Simply Rugged that was originally for a 1911 and had a thumb break. Did some hacking and remolding for the big Ruger. :)

Don't have any pics of it OWB, but holds the butt nearly as tight as in the pic when used outside the waistband. It's a little tighter to the body when IWB, but not a whole lot.

I've got three other Simply Rugged holsters ( Sourdough, Silver Dollar, and a Cuda) all with "inside out" straps. They do a nice job in either configuration

I'm a fan of Rob's holsters. :)

Cool, I hope you are confident with the SAA though. I like shooting them but I wouldn't feel as confident as I do with double action revolvers or auto pistols.

I'd have to go with IWB, but a 4 5/8" Blackhawk is a heckuva lump IWB. I like that IWB rig, though, giving me thoughts. LOL Some will say "why" about CCW and the Blackhawk, but I have a good reason, going out to a national park soon, Big Bend, and would like to tote my .45 Colt. However, it MUST be concealed to do so. I figure a .357 is plenty, though.

CCW or semi-ccw in the field keeps the gun out of the way, close to the body, and protected from the elements and brush better. As long as one isn't violating some law, CCW in the field might be the preferred way to carry, even for a SA.
