A current thread got me thinking and looking as SKS' in general and specifically SAMCO--Anybody got one of the "new condition" ones, especially with the consecutive numbers or whatever-was it like new? Most importantly, how was the bore? Thanks.cwd

I have 2 of the Samco Yugo SKS's in "unissued" condition. Although there are slight storage wear marks and the stocks are so-so, they appear to be unused and pretty decent all around. One has some electropencil numbers so I think it was "force-matched". Bores were in great shape. Just make sure you can find one with all matching numbers that were stamped in not electro pencil-ed in.
Numbers should match on the stock, reciever, gas tube, bolt carrier and bolt.
I recently picked up a Yugo from Cherry's (pretty sure thats the name) and it is freakin' awesome! All the numbers match. No electro pencil numbers anywhere and the stock is beautiful. Bluing is perfect. Bore is perfect. I refinished the stock and treated it with boiled linseed oil. This one is my pride and joy. It came with a sling, bore cleaner rope thing, and an oiler in a belt pouch.
I would definately check to see if your dealer can get you one from Cherry's.
One word of caution though, when you do get your sks, make sure you break down the bolt and remove the firing pin and ejector to clean all the cosmoline and junk out. If you dont you are subject to a "slam fire" if the firing pin sticks in the protruding position.

My Yugo 59/66 was originally from Cherrys. Sold unissued, all numbers matched, stock is really interesting (elm?), blueing was 100% - I really second that nomination! Cherrys sells top-notch Yugo SKSs.

just picked up a "new condition" SKS rifle, P prefix, at SAMCO last Thursday - $209.00 (with all new accessories included). I decided to get one with the logbook for $20.00 extra - set another rifle, a "D" prefix rifle (also with logbook) aside for pick up later on this coming week - didn't have all the money on me -
My rifle has been, apparently, rearsenaled, all matching #s - seems the top of the bolt carrier has be "scrubbed" and re-numbered - besides the original serial #s, the rifle also has the (parts assembly?) # 35917- same # as is on the underside of the barrel - electropenciled on the bolt (serial on the bolt itself, unlike the one on the bolt carrier, is the original stamped #) underside of the bolt carrier, the rear sight, the base of the trigger guard, the magazine (not the magazine cover, but the magazine itself), the gas tube (which also has the original stamped # on it) and underside of the receiver cover. The stock has the serial # stamped on it and on the recess to access the safety latch has a penciled "35917" number.
Rifle's bluing is spotless, gas system's in grate shape... furniture is outstanding... Pristine overall. I'd say that, right now, it's a good buy.
Samco's now out of all M59, but they apparently have still got plenty of M59/66s, including a (very) few Yugo 59/66s with logbooks - including some consecutive #s they won't split up. tell me, do you really think it's worth paying the extra $ for the logbooks? there's also a large STACK of orders on one of the front office desks... waiting to be filled. There are piles of empty crates out by the dumpster.

I bought an unissued 59/66 a few years ago and even it had electropencilled numbers on it.

If you are sure your rifle was truly "unissued" when you got it, you might try to contact this man... as he's trying to determine questions on the issue - see this:

The history of these rifles is all very interesting to me. Some are weapons that saw battle in what was the former Yugoslavia, during the civil wars there after the Soviet Union disintegrated. Others are apparently (seem to be) weapons that were manufactured and /or refurbished - then warehoused waiting for that war never happened. The war that stayed cold... "the one we won?"
