Hey,

The other day I got to see and handle one of the Golani semi autos for the first time. It was pretty nice, nothing to write home about though.

Right now I have an SAR-1 that I really don't like. It's because of the furniture set. To keep it I would HAVE to change it out to something that was longer and more comfortable to shoot and looked better. Just a bit of checking and i found a replacement furniture set from K-Var that sold for about $115 or so. It would make a HUGE difference in my opinion of it for sure. But then I thought that there may be something out there that I would rather have and I could trade it or sell mine and buy it.

That's where the Golani comes in at my local shop. I thought it came in 7.62 x 39 but just found that it is in .223. Not really that big of a deal though. I already have a Colt AR so I guess that would prompt me to have more ammo on hand.
I have also thought about a Saiga 12 gauge. Or maybe one of the new Ruger Mini-14 rifles. So many possibilities.....

So what would you do, upgrade the stock on the SAR-1 and keep it, or find something else better or one that you liked more and try to get a deal to get it?
Do you have any thoughts on the Golani?

I'd like to hear your thoughts. Is there something else in that general price range that I should also consider?

Thanks for your time and help. I appreciate it.

I'd keep the SAR 1. From all the bad press I've read about the Galil, I don't think I'd trade. You can also get a nice wood stock set from Ironwooddesigns.com or Stocksandgrips.com. Ironwoods have to be finished, but a 4 piece set runs $88.00 in either walnut or laminate. If its a Galil you really want, make sure you get an IMI Galil, but they are high dollar.

The SAR is probably more practical and there are a lot more accessories for it (and if you are changing the furniture anyway, you can get the Command Arms forend with the rails if you want to put a light on there eventually), an ultimak for a red dot, etc.

The Golani is neat if you want something different or would rather have a .223, though.

The only Galil style rifle I've heard negative things about is the Century ones. I want one just because I don't have one yet. They are AK's without crappy sights, yes I know the recievers are different and a few other things but they are really cool rifles and are pretty accurate. I would never get rid of any gun for another one but I am a collector so I would personally keep the SAR and get the Golani also.

I'd keep the SAR1, especially if shoots worth half a darn and you know its history after import.

I have a brand new Golani want to buy or trade? Of course you will have to wait until it come back from the factory, it's out for repairs after 50 rounds.
