Before I head back over to the FAL Files to glean more info, I thought I'd ask a question here at THR Rifle Country concerning IronWood Designs pending wood furniture build/run for the FAL.
I've got an SAR 48 Imbel (4800 Sporter, whatever. No thumbhole tho), all black synthetic furniture. A couple of weeks back (Oct 27 I believe) IWD announced new wood will be shaped for an FAL run, both metric and inch, walnut, birch (inch pattern), claro, maybe some maple... you get the drift.
Question being, Which pattern is the Springfield closest to (no buttstock ferrule or trap door on mine obviously)? STG 58 w/ factory STG recoil pad, w/ ferrule or w/out, or the G1? Handguard on the SA48 is a 3 vent slot... don't wanna mess with the T48 handguard (or should I?). PG w/out selector cutout (whichever, I'm feeling somewhat ambivalent in this regards)

I'm wondering if a buttstock ferrule is a good, wise and smart transition from the receiver to BS and if so, how easy or PITA to add to the equation. Hate to see that wood split. My synthetic is sans ferrule.
I likes me the look of the walnuted wonder T48 (who doesn't?), but then again, an EBR really seems to annoy those elected into office for some reason. Wouldn't a Blonde Brazilian (maple) just be... so politically wrong?!? (but shockingly hot and pretentious) And Claro so, hoity? (I'm not a Fiiine Woood kinda Baba) Think Matt would do some Birch for the metric set?
Of course one could leave the evil black handguard and/or PG on and just have that nice woodsy 'cheeky' feel for a little of both.
Decisions, decisions, decisions. Christmas is coming and I've been... well, I haven't been caught being naughty yet. (and that oughta count for something)
Any pearls of wisdom from the "experts" here, (or words of wisdom... "Baba, don't do it Baba"... from the strongly opinionated) before I go traipsing over to the pros who know all things FN?
(or should I just buy a lot of that Lithuanian or Estonian 7.62x51 with the same moola... dangit, why did I just ask myself that NOW?)

1. Do it or no? This is a stock factory pre-ban (yeah right) don't devalue it.

What would you do? Inquiring minds want to know? Well, at least one. Oh yeah, Extra credence (or credit) to those with wood stocked FAL's adding some luster via photo inserts or who have trudged down this path before.
