Can anyone tell me a little bit about this gun? It has a single non selective trigger. Possible years of manufacture? It doesn't say anywhere how it is choked. My Dad bought this gun at a gun show a few years back and I have taken it over. I see why now the english use SxS when hunting over dogs. This gun is very quick to the shoulder and a lot of fun to shoot. One other thing that I do like is I'm not littering the ground with spent hulls.

Thanks for the help!

Ansley Fox was a terrific gun designer and a terrible businessman. After his company went belly up, Savage bought the rights to the name and made these for quite a while. Dunno about when it started or ended.

What I do know is these are tough, durable working class shotguns that will last forever, and they have lots of fans. I had one briefly, and it was an outstanding bird gun. Congrats, and enjoy.

More of these were made with tight chokes than not. My guess, the most likely combo is Modified and Full, second choice,I/C and Mod.Single triggers are relatively rare, most had two.

Early ones had short chambers for the older 2 1/2 or 2 9/16" shells.Like ALL older shotguns, a good smith should look it over before firing, tho that's a little late in your case. The smith can tell you what the choke is, if it's not on the gun. Some of these, including the one I had, had the choke marks underneath, see if there's any markings on the barrels visible when it's apart. Second choice, on the water table, the flat part of the action between the breach and hinge pin.

HTH...

Savage fox

Savage took over fox about 1930. I don't believe the chokes are marked anywhere on those guns. In 1939 Savage brought out the Model B, they make this gun until the late 80's (88/89). Is Harley Nolden (fromt TFL) still around? He can tell you a lot more about that gun than I can...

Thank you for the info. I have looked all over this gun and can't seem to find how it is choked.

Here is what I have on the Fox. In the past I have restocked and owned this gun. As I recall, the right hand barrel is modified and the left barrel is full choke, and the non-select trigger will fire the right barrel first. Keep in mind that I suffer from CRS (can't remember stuff) sometimes and this may be incorrect.

As was previously mentioned this shotgun is a very good utility shotgun and a mainstay for many bird shooters in years past. A good solid gun

All the Fox Model B's I have seen - from the late 1950's to date - were of Savage manufacture and were dressed up versions of the Stevens 311. I don't know if the earlier Model B's were of Ansley Fox design or not.

A 1964 Gun Digest lists the B with 26 inch barrels as having Improved Cylinder and Modified choke, the 28 inch guns with Modified and Full. No need to mark, that was the only combination they made. The non-selective trigger will fire the open barrel first, probably because they figured most DB shooters would be hunting flushing game.

Thank you for all the info. My gun has 26 inch barrels so evidently it's choked imp.cylinder and modified.

Thanks again for the help!!! :)
