I'm ordering a Kimber 8400 in .270 WSM. I'm going to use it for hunting deer in VT. I expect that the range I'll need will be between 50 and 200 yards.

What scope should I get?

The Kimber 8400 is a light rifle, so I don't want to make it top-heavy with a monster scope. The action is short, so I'm concerned that I might have a problem mounting a scope with a lot of eye relief.

Given my druthers, I'd prefer to keep cost well under $1,000 and I'd like to buy American. I'm leaning to Leupold, but which one?

light rifle should wear a light scope and mounting hardware.

leupold ultra light scope held in place by talley lightweights ought to do ya fine.

for a power range, i'd go w/ a fixed-6, but if you must have a variable, go w/ one that tops out around 10 (3.5-10). the 4.5-14 is an outstanding scope, but it will over power the rifle and make the system look kinda funny. the 2.5-8 is another great scope (and light), but it sits a little high in the talley ring/base mount.
