Ok-----I'm locked in on a Savage 10FP-LE-2A ( Choate Ult. Varmit Stock/ 26" heavy barrel) in 223 and need input on nice glass for it.

Mostly 100/200/300 yd paper punching---maybe some varmit.

I can get the Leupold Mark 4 3x9-40 PR for less than $300---seems a good match-or----------can you recommend better---budget upto $400 for a scope--------thanks in advance!! :)

I've got a couple sightron S2s. Great glass and excellent repeatability, and several models in your price range. I've got a couple leupolds too, so nothing against them, I just think sightron gives me a little more for my money.

SJG26;

OK, slightly over your budget max, but certainly worth looking at. The Weaver T series target scopes. These are fixed power scopes from 10 to 36 X with A/O and usually with target dots.

Midway shows them from about $406.00 to $450.00. Ask around on some of the other boards, I think you'll find that they have a good reputation.

I really like the current series of Leupold VX's in 3-9X40. I have 2 of them and have been very happy with them. You can get the VX-1 for under $200 and with a lifetime warrantly, it's hard to go wrong.

Leupold makes great glass, but if I were you I'd get something with more magnification.
A 4-12x would be good and something bigger would be ebetter for paper and varmints.

You should look at the 3-12x40mm Bushnell Elite 4200 or a Weaver Grand Slam. Nikon Moncarchs are also great for the money.

+1 on the Sightrons. I have an SII4-16x42MD mounted on my .223, and IMO, it's better quality than a comparable loopy, at half the price.

I believe Midway has them on sale at the moment for under $400.00.

I have a 4-12 X 40MM Leupold VXII on my 22-250, it is perfect for me and I picked it up off of a guy in a gun shop parking lot for $250... they go $400 brand new... It's the one with the paralax objective and fine crosshairs...
