I received a call yesterday and was talking to a nice sounding lady who, during the course of the conversation grew up in Georgia, and I suppose because I am in Virginia, discussed how she and her husband served in Norfolk back in the day

It turns out that she was now calling for the Second Amendment Foundation for a fundraiser. They do a lot of actual lifting in the courts, so I threw down $25.

She then asked if I was interested in becoming a Life Member for $125 more. I had never heard of a SAF Life Member, and actually have never been contacted by them. Perhaps because I have not been shooting much, my imaginary Shooting Slush Fund was fuller then it might have been, I said, "sure".

So, I guess I am now a Life Member. Money well spent, I think.

Caution is advised...

Cavman--While I'm certain that your heart is in the right place re. 2A, you said something very revealing, to wit:
I had never heard of a SAF Life Member, and actually have never been contacted by them.
When you are contacted by an organization of which you have never heard, and/or don't know much about, and they ask you for $$, the FIRST thing to do is to check them out, and discover (1) if they are legitimately what they say they are, and (2) what percent of your contribution actually goes to be used for the stated purpose, as opposed to salaries and "expenses."

Otherwise, you could be wasting your money merely for fat salaries, or, worst case, actually mistakenly contributing to the opposition, who have been known to assume nice-sounding organizational names.

Regardless of how friendly the nice lady from Georgia sounds.

Sorry to rain on your parade.

The Second Amendment Foundation is one of the most highly regarded RKBA organizations out there.

They do a lot of legal work on behalf of gun owners, and if you're not familiar with them, you should definitely look them up. They're small, but very focused and task-oriented.

Thanks for the well meaning wake-up call, Smokey Joe.

What I wrote was probably a little unclear. I did know the Second Amendment Foundation when she called, (I had finally joined them a year ago after I learned here on THR of all the work that they were doing; real, no nonsense-type, getting definitive results type work.)

What I meant to say is that, unlike the well known NRA Life Memberships, I had never heard of the Second Amendment Foundation Life Memberships when she called.

Here is the link. It can immediately be seen that they are actively involved just from their first page!

Also, it should be said that the $125 extra was going to go 100% into the pot, none was to go to overhead type stuff, if I recall correctly.

SAF has brought a lawsuit against my home state to attempt to overturn New Jersey's draconian may-issue carry permit laws. I became a life member the day that lawsuit was filed, and I continue to contribute to them.

Not to take away anything from the NRA (as I'm an Endowment member), but to me, the SAF is more "on-point" than the NRA is, at least for my immediate interests.

I have been shooting for 55 years. I read voraciously. I am a member of several gun forums. Well Known?
I have never heard of this organization!
