i have m1a 18", m1a 22" , mini 14, ar15, & vz58 all iron sights. i feel it would be good to have some optics though. i would like an aimpoint compc3 2moa for the bush rifle & maybe a nikon monarch 1.1-4x24 or similar leupold model. i like the aimpoint becuse of the battery life & am thinking something in the 1-8 mid range scope would be nice for my m1a loaded model. leaving my mini 14 & ar15 plain. do you guys think this is a good idea? i will be able to co-witness the aimpoint on the bush rifle, if i use the ultimak rail. i don't have any night sights on any of my rifles so i think i need something. i like acog's and espically the accupoint but i believe they burn out over time maybe 10yrs or something, so their out. i only use these rifles for range time and if the shtf, which i hope never happens.

If it were me I'd sell the Mini-14 and VZ-58 for these reasons:

1) Unique and/or expensive mags.
2) The VZ-58 is the oddball as far as caliber goes.
3) The Mini-14 niche is already covered by the AR.

As far as which optics, I really like the Aimpoints. Don't forget to look at the Micro Aimpoints as they are totally sick looking on a Ultimak on a M1A.

(Yes, Virginia, you can still use the irons.)

no go on the mini 14 i shoot it every time i want to shoot .223/5.56 plus i already have plenty of mags for it. i would sell the ar15 way before the mini. the vz58 is defintly getting sold but as far as ammo goes it takes the same as an ak so it is everywhere & cheep. the only reason im torn about selling the ar15 is becuse it reminds me of what i shot in basic, otherwise it would be gone already. i can't even count how many times i shot my mini this year & my ar15 i only took out once. its a good weapon and the accuracy is good, i just enjoy shooting my mini more. ps. thats a good looking rifle & thanks for the pics.

sell a rifle to fund 2 optics

I did exactly that to fund 2 Leupold's. While I am happy with the optics I should have kept what I had and bought the optics. It seemed like a good idea at the time and it was from a money point of view. I can't replace what I got rid of as it is no longer made and hard to find.

Seems like starting with a Millett 1-4X Tac DMS for $200 would be a better option practically speaking. If it works well, try one of their micro red dots for another $200 or so and keep your collection intact.

While much is made of the SHTF scenarios few people are truly prepared to do what is necessary to survive. I'm not talking about a home break in but rather the zombie craze and Armageddon rubbish spoken of so often. Better to enjoy what you have, use practical optics of decent quality and if your lottery numbers hit go full tilt. There are those who need big dollar sights and those who can afford that luxury for every rifle they own. For the typical enthusiast there are much saner (money wise) options.

SWFA has the 1-4X with a Burris P.E.P.R. mount combo for $260. For home defense in any scenario I'd sooner grab something with irons and a flashlight mounted (again practical) though mine would resemble an 870 pump action.

thanks guys alot of options to consider. but please my mini isn't going anywhere i love that rifle. if i had to sell all my rifles but two i would keep my mini & one of my m1a's. i think the vz58 will be sold and the only queston left is aimpoint + which optic for my m1a.
