sell my guns

I have some what I think, are valuable colts to sell, including an 1872 Peacemaker serial no. 22486, 1860 Colt Army Model ser. 77141, 1851 Navy ser. 2111 and an 1858 Remington ser.no. 16031. Condition on most is very good. I am a Canadian looking for the best U.S. gun show to display these and sell them at. Can anyone recommend the best place for selling these where I would receive a fair price?...Thanks..Steve

The Houston Gun Show used to be the biggest in the country to my knowledge but so much as changed in the last few years that that may no longer be true. BUT as far as getting a "fair price" goes, that may or may not occur at any gun show! The dealers at any gun show WILL try to rob you and the customers may not be any better. If I were you I'd try Gunbroker or Auction Arms. Post plenty of GOOD pictures and write a GOOD description describing EVERYTHING including warts and all. Pictures and description will make or break an auction!

Anyone up on any "issues" this Canadian gentlemen might run into in an attempt to bring those guns across the border for sale?

Be aware that the revolvers that are listed are classified in the United States as "Antiques," because they were made before 1898, and as such are not subject to our firearms laws at the federal level, and also at most state and local levels. They are also exempt from import regulations concerning post-1898 firearms. For the record:

Colt 1851 Navy, 2111 (1850)
Colt 1860 Army, 77141 (1862)
Colt 1873 Peacemaker, 22486 (1876)
Remington "New Model" Army, 16031 (1863)

Value would depend on condition they're in.

Concerning gun shows... Is it your intention to attend a show, or sell your antiques through another party? If you plan to attend, where you are located in Canada might make a difference in terms of travel expenses, and it might be cheaper to deal through a U.S. antique dealer.

You could consign the guns to one of the auction houses dealing in firearms. It would saave you the travel time and expense which you have to consider vs the auction houses fees.

TonyT has the right answer. Figure out a reliable auction house to put them out for sale to the highest bidder. You will get a far larger audience, and the process will avoid the usual game-playing.
