My local gunstore has Seller and Bellot (spelling?) .308 for 10 dollars a box(20). I have heard it is good stuff, but is it really any better than the South African surplus stuff. It is 147grn FMJ. I would be using it in my Savage 10FP.
Well, I've only used it in 8x57 Mauser, so I can't directly compare it to SA .308. But it was quite accurate, much moreso than ANY milsurp ammo in the same gun.
Edited to add: however we tried reloading, and had case head seperations after only a few mild loads...So the brass isn't the greatest.
what are you going to shoot? If it is fmj, I would go with the cheapest. I have shot S&B in 9mm, 380acp, 32acp, and 303 with no problems. No problems with the SA either. S&B is reloadable......chris3
I am paying about $185/980 from aimsurplus.com right now for the last of the South African surplus.
It works wonderfully in my M1As. It's easily 2-4 MOA ammo in my rack grade rifles. I don't know what kind of shooting you do, but I don't need any better accuracy potential than that.
For $500 you could have 1000rds of hte S&B or 3x980rd cases of hte South African surplus ammo.
I love the S&B ammo. But, it is not reloadable in the long run. I have reloaded fired S&B .303 cases and they all failed on firing the 3rd reload. Case head seperates due to the way the case is made. I have culled out all my S&B brass. But, the ammo is sweet new.
