I can either buy an off the shelf Springfield Black Stainless or use the money to make my Springfield Mil-Spec a semi-custom gun.

The semi-custome would include, an Ed Brown BT and thumb safety, beveled mag well, Novak sights, Kart bbl, bushing and link, dehorned, trigger job, reliability package and refinish.

I'm looking for people that went the custom route and how it worked out for them.

Any help is appreciated.

To be truthful the only answer is what do you want? What someone else has done was to satify their personal wants. Don't build a pistol based on what others have done. Build it to suit you. You will be the one shooting it.

I already know what I want on the custom. What I'm looking for is how happy people might have been after they got the gun home and shot it for a while.

Semi-custom? Not a buildup from white parts, but I would call that a fully customized gun.

Anyhow, a good 1911 specialist would take those specifications and give you a much nicer gun than anything out of the SA production catalog. It will cost a good deal more, though.

Probably my finest 1911 derivative is the Combat Commander with about that much work done on it. It is every bit as nice as my full custom Caspian, and miles ahead of any production run gun no matter how many "features."

The guy I work with does all this work for around $850. He's done work for me in the past and is very good.

A similiar package is available through The Action Works for around the same price.

It would be built on a Springfield NM seriel numbered Mil-Spec. Meaning it doesn't carry the Imbel Brazil markings on the dust cover.
