I think he or his staff skirted around the AWB sunset.

Dear X:

Thank you for contacting me. I am always glad to hear from you.

I do not advocate unduly burdensome gun control. As a hunter myself, I
understand the concerns of responsible gun owners. Millions of law
abiding Americans own handguns and use them responsibly, and there is no
reason to pass a national handgun ban. Furthermore, I oppose efforts to
repeal the Second Amendment to the Constitution. The Bill of Rights,
including the Second Amendment, is among the greatest gifts our nation has
given to the world, and a fundamental bastion of liberty.

That being said, I believe the protection of our children's future is
worth additional safety measures like background checks and child safety
locks with gun purchases, giving gun owners the option to install the
locks on their guns. These measures would not hinder responsible gun
owners from enjoying their rights, but would add some extra security in
our homes and communities.
As legislation comes before the Senate concerning this issue, I will
certainly keep your views in mind.

Your input has been a great help to me. I travel back to Iowa regularly
and meet with Iowans both at home and in Washington whenever my schedule
allows. But Senate business keeps me in Washington too often. The
thoughtful comments of Iowans like yourself helps fill that gap. The many
letters and phone calls I get from Iowans each day help me keep track of
what issues matter most to Iowa and often alert me to problems or issues
that deserve closer attention. That helps me better do my job of serving
Iowa and makes me a better Senator. I appreciate your help and encourage
you, your friends and neighbors to write or call me with your views.

Sincerely,

Tom Harkin
United States Senator

I don't have any trouble reading between the lines of the Senator's letter; do you?

And where did this gem come from?
Furthermore, I oppose efforts to repeal the Second Amendment to the Constitution.
Is there some such effort going on among your friends on Capitol Hill, Senator? :scrutiny:

"As a hunter myself" is Senate speak for "Bend over - I'm going to screw you again". Since Senator Harkin enjoys hearing from you - write him back and mention that the 2nd Amendment doesn't mention hunting, and suggest that he take the time to read it.

In the field of psychoanalysis, that's what is known as a "faulty action" (Fehleistung), the colloquial label is "Freudian Slip". In every case there is presumed to be an unconscious determinant of the faulty action, which can sometimes be inferred directly from the context. Make no mistake about it, the insertion of that sentence was not an accident.

Harkin is a hunter just like Kerry is a hunter. I have never seen either with anything but a shotgun. Worthless political scum.

Is it just me, or does he not mention the AWB one time in that response. He didn't skirt the issue, he flat-out ignored it!

hunter

Pheasant hunting is king in Iowa so all polititions try to look like some sort of hunter. I pretty much told Senator Harkin that the AWB is unconstitutional and if he votes to renew the AWB that many people in Iowa will not vote for him in the next election.

I really don't see where handguns fall into it, I think his staff have one of those multichoice auto reply based upon key words in the emails sent.

Harkin is a hardcore socialist. I don't know how he has fooled the good people of Iowa all these years, unless he is very good at bringing home the pork.

Yes, Harkin is an old timer so he has become an expert at moving the pork train down Iowa tracks, I guess this is good for us, yet his socialism is not what our country needs. He has hoodwinked us Iowans for years telling us he represents us when he is seeking the pat on the back from his croonies in DC, since when does the admiration of your fellow senators mean more than the adirmiration of your constituents. I do like his comments about visiting the state when ever he can, our other Sen. Grassely I understand is in church almost every weekend in his home town in NE Iowa, shaking hands and listening to fellow Iowans. A long time bash has been that Harkin is never in Iowa.

I am afraid the only way to beat Harkin is to let time work. We had a chance with a fella named Salir last elections but instead our GOP put a guy up that was not much different than Harkin, to me it was vote for liberal or liberal lite, same foul taste yet less filling of the sickness in my stomach. I went 3rd party.

Thanks for sending a letter, Charby, time is on our side for AWB sunset I hope, though election year politics may bite us in the britches.

Standing Wolf...

A large number of us have been trying to retire mr. Harkin (D-Bahamas) but unfortunately, we keep coming up just a bit shy.

I have personally tried to communicate with the fellow who claims to hail from Iowa, but after several years of attempts, using proper grammer and finesse, he has failed to respond.

It does NO good to try to exchange ideas with this "man" as he is a master at ignoring your presence if you do not send a few hundred or a few thousand bucks ahead to announce your presence......

In reality, I am totally flabbergasted that Charby got ANY sort of response from him at all. My hat is off to you Mr? Charby. You have succeeded where I have failed totally.

PS...Charby.... go west out the main drag to Ringgold Street, then south a few blocks to where the road bends slightly towards the right. continue straight up the old drive at the bend and you will have arrived at my ancestorial homestead.;) Lots of fond childhood memories there at my Grandparents place where I spent the first 3 years of my life while my father was driving the lead scout car in the first division over there on the other side of the world.. and many other times growing up and running through the pasture and playing in the creek...
