I have a Series 70 1911 that I ahve been doing some work on, and also would like to have Novak install some low pro sights on.

I have been grinding, filing, and fitting parts, I now need to have it refinished (parkerized) as well.

My question is should I re-park it now and send it in, or wait until Novak sends my slide back, take them off myself, then repark? What hae you guys done?

No point in doing any final finish work until they mill the dovetails.

If you do it now, you will just have to do it again then.

Are they easily taken off Or should I have then cut the dove tails and send the sights loose so I don't have to take them off?

My thought is not to move them once they're on for good.

I would tell Novac that you need to remove them to Park the slide when you get it back.
They will do the necessary machine work and fit the new sights to the dovetails.
Tell them to hold off on the Lock-Tight!

When you get it back, just eyeball where they are, or pop a very small center punch mark so you can line them up again.

But, I doubt if Novac does any actual sighting in shooting, at least not with your eyes anyway!
You will probably have to move them a scooch anyway when you shoot it.

I sent in a Springfield Mil-Spec slide 2 years ago to have it milled for the lo-mount tritium novak sights... the original sights were lined up right, and on the order form you can specify that they line up the new ones the same way... when I got it back it was dead-on.

The slide was parked originally, and when I got it back it had a new matte bluing job on it (nicely done) ... I didn't specify that I wanted it refinished, but they did it anyway (I guess because of the little bit of exposed metal from the milling operation, I thought they would just "touch it up) ... they didn't charge me for it... and some might think that wasn't cool... but I kinda like the two-tone look the gun has now... the frame is grayish parkerized, and with that black slide it looks kind of special now. I'm sure they'll refinish it to your specs (you could send 'em the frame too) for minimal cost.

Sent in my 1911 slide and they did a beautiful job, including a free bluing that came out perfect. You won't regret going with Novak. just let them know what you want and that is exactly what you'll get.
