So I went out to the garage tonight and tried to open my Sentinel gun cabinet...my key won't work! It's the circular kind, not the normal key type of lock. It's like the center piece of the lock is too big for the center of the key.

Now it has been pretty warm in the garage, so I brought the cabinet into the house and the air conditioning, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything.

Anyone ever have this problem? It's not the wrong keys, I have no other locks in the house with circular keys and I've always kept these on my key ring. Is it just a matter of letting the cabinet cool off in the house?

Look for FOD in the center of the key or in the "circle" the key fits into, Try the second key in case something has deformed this one to out of round. Some of these keys are pretty flimsy and can get deformed easily.

yea, neither of the 2 keys work and both appear to be perfectly formed. I'm guessing the lock has either expanded or oxidized out in the garage.

Hopefully if it comes down to it I can drill the lock out...I've got about 9 guns in there!

Aw crap guys - NM...These are the keys for my laptop lock at work.

Which means I don't know where the keys are for my gun safe...NOT good lol!

Anyway NM.

Well, I see another problem. A "cabinet" in your garage, that you yourself can move into the house. That means someone can haul it out of your garage very easily.

It won't be a problem for long...I tried to find the key last night - no luck. I've got a couple more places to check, but I doubt this cabinet is long for this world. Can't believe that key isn't on my keyring.

It's good that you found out this way and not when you needed it ! I would also rethink your gun storage.

One day I was bored I was looking up quick and dirty ways for picking locks. I ran across somewhere (i don't remember where) that you can operate low quality cylinder locks with a Bic pen. The white ones you get in 20 packs. pull the tip off so you're left with the barrel and push it into the lock and try to turn it.

^^ lol!

I FOUND THE KEY! Found it on another one of my key rings. ** PHEW ** Disaster avoided this time.

Just an idea for your gun cabinet, if you do upgrade to a safe. I kept mine gun locker after I got my large sage and turned it into an ammo locker.

You have had a classic "key crisis" , an adjunct symptom of CRS. :D Dont know how old you are but it doesnt matter now, the disease is obvious and there is no cure. :( I'm 70 and I can assure you it will get worse. :D:D:D

Bolt the thing to the floor or else a burglar could simply walk off with it and open it at his leisure.
