I need some advice to ship my King Cobra form Mo. where I live to Myself in Missoula Mt.
I will be there about a month.

I understand it needs to go UPS overnight & that's fine but I'll be staying with my brother.
Can I just ship it to him?

Yes. While it may seem like a minor detail, shipping it to him may be construed as an illegal transfer.

Although I also have to ask, why not take it with you?

Like Craig told you ......

Q: May a nonlicensee ship firearms interstate for his or her use in hunting or other lawful activity?
Yes. A person may ship a firearm to himself or herself in care of another person in the State where he or she intends to hunt or engage in any other lawful activity. The package should be addressed to the owner. Persons other than the owner should not open the package and take possession of the firearm.
------------------------
but its pretty expensive to ship and insure for replacement cost ...a gun like that overnight air...one way .....and presumably you will want to ship it back to yourself at home ....so double the cost !! /.. and if you're only going to be there for 30 days...why bother ??

Thank you for responding.
So If I ship it overnight UPS to myself @ my brothers house he can receive but not open it and I will have it when I arrive a day or two later?

Yep - cost you anywhere from 80-100 each way - locking in your luggage on the planes is the better way to go - no one in any of the other places is going to know anything about it being in there

Remember, you can't ship ammo via air, so unless you are buying ammo out there, you will have a second ground shipment - unless you put that box in your luggage with your gun - all legal and safe

It would be worthwhile to check the airline's website to see if they will allow you to ship ammo. Can it be in the same bag or must it be in a different checked bag?

I've shipped my pistol several times with no problems. I just buy ammo at my destination and leave it with my brother for my next trip.

I thought next-day air was about $50-$60. Is that not correct? I just hee-haw when somebody posts advice to somebody to ship a firearm to himself, but not let his brother/other relative open the package. Anybody see the silliness in that??

Maybe you call ahead and have a BATFE agent meet you at the relative's house to watch YOU open the package that was delivered to your brother's house?? Hardehardeharharhar!
