Shipping ammo from Left Coast to Right Coast?

All,

I have what I estimate to be about 90 pounds of various small calibre rounds (nothing larger than .308) at my mothers house in storage. She lives on the West coast. I live on the East Coast and would like to know about having a company pick up the ammunition and deliver it to me in North Carolina.

Has anyone done this, and what am I looking at paying to do so?

What companies will do this for me?

1000 rounds of 9mm, or 7.62x39 would cost about $25. That is about 40 pounds. Figure from there. UPS does it, no problem.

I ordered some ammo online and the wrong caliber was delivered to me. Neither UPS or FedEx would take it back from me. The ammo company had to do a request for pickup from my location.

So if you're looking at one of the regular carriers you might have a problem, assuming you tell them what's actually in the packages. I can only imagine the problems you could get youself into if you don't tell the truth, and a package breaks open or is othewise damaged in transit.

90 pounds in not alot of weight to ship, so a freight company should be able to do it for not too terrible a price. I'd look in the phone book for you area and see who's around.

UPS will ship it by weight. You are only required to clearly mark it "ORM-D Small Arms Ammunition" on the outside of the box. If it's 90lbs, you'll probably get hit with "Extra Large/Heavy" charges if you don't break it down into smaller boxes.

You cannot ship 90 pounds of ammunition as ORM-D. That much ammunition must be shipped as a Division 1.1 Explosive. The maximum weight that can be sent ORM-D is 30 kilograms (66 pounds).

You will have to break it down into 2 packages.
