Well, it's that time. I'm going to a Knobloch or champion glasses set up.
Standard 50 year old eyes with reading lens of 1.5 power.

Do the powers correlate to lenses in the shooting glasses, or will i need a lesser power?
I realize you can't diagnose me over the internet, but where is a good place to start?
Thanks, David

You didn't say what kind of shooting you need them for.

I'm a little older than you are, but, really don't remember what my corrections are.

For shotguns, or, SCOPED rifles, I can get by with my bi-focals, but, I also had a set of shooting glasses made for "distance" only.

With only 1.5 of correction needed for reading, I think you are right at the borderline for needing glasses to be able to see iron sights, sharply, but, with corrective lens, the targets will be a little fuzzy.

Every couple of years, I take an iron-sighted, pistol with me to my optical guy, and he generally ends up making me a set of glasses that are just a little weaker than the RX I use for reading. He also made me up a special set of glasses for shooting 3-gun that have 2 sets of lens--the second set of lens flip down for iron sights.

Good luck!!

More info

You're exactly right, i should have given more info.
I'm shooting a 20" ar15 serice rifle, with .042 aperature.
I have a little problem with the front sight, especially @ 600.

I have a Bob Jones rear lens with a +37, but I may need to go to a .50 or 62.

Just looking at options.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Dr. Norman Wong is a Bullseye shooter and has written quite a bit on the subject.
High Master Ed Hall has put Dr. Wong's writings down on his website.

Lots of good reading there. Print it out and take it to your doctor.

(Also, you didn't say where you are in your User info. Dr. Alan Toler is also involved with shooting and is Distinguished in both Pistil and Service Rifle. If you are in the Richmond, VA area you might make a visit to his eye clinic. http://www.drtoler.com/)
