I can spend a whole day by myself working up loads or practicing but shootin with the guys (and gals) or in a competition is just as fun. I guess sending hot lead downrange is the end-all answer.

Personally I have a very low tolerance for any rules regulations and requirements beyond the basic range safety rules.
With you there.

And more than that when I'm working up loads or trying out new guns I'm in a zen space apart from all others. That's one reason I like doing it. I'll shoot with other people but only in the sense that we're both at the range at the same time. I'm probably pretty extreme though.
That is very much me. That's also my preference when sighting in a scope, or trying something new.

I do enjoy shooting with others, though. USPSA pistol and rifle matches are a blast. So I like a mix of both.

Usually shoot alone. Sometimes I shoot with my son which I enjoy but I wind up supplying most of the ammo since I'm a semi-auto guy and he's a revolver guy.

I shoot with my wife, or one or both of my brothers, usually at a range we have all to ourselves. That's the way I like it best, given my druthers.

"Group therapy"

I like both. However, when I want to get actual shooting done, I fly solo. When in a group I enjoy the camaraderie but wind up getting little trigger time in.

When I shoot to test or sight a weapon or test a specific handload I prefer to go it alone. When I am training or just casual shooting I prefer to have a buddy come along. For the training aspect if you value their opinion a friend can provide good insight on your shortfalls. And of course wasting ammo is best done in large groups. :)

I answered "BOTH".

I enjoy the social intercourse when shooting competition. Particularly as I am no longer very competitive because of my health, I would miss the "guys", the banter, and shooting the 'bull'.

BUT!

The most relaxed I have ever been in my life, is behind the open sights of my rifles shooting at the longer ranges, M1 Garand, M14/M1A, 03-A3 Springfield, 1917 US Enfield etc. It is almost a "ZEN" state. Really it has always amazed me how much more relaxed I am after firing a string.

Go figure.

I generally shoot with my son or my wife, and sometimes with both. I seldom if ever go alone to the range.

I dont shoot at a range, so I dont shoot alone. I typically dont like to have more than 3 people with me, however Ive had groups of over 10. Never any problems.

I enjoy hitting the range with my family and friends but most of the time I'm on my own. As others have mentioned, it depends on what I'm doing. I would say I prefer a group, not sure what it is though, maybe the competition and the camaraderie.

I like a combination. I like being in a group sometimes because of the opportunity to try each other's guns to see if there's something I'd like to buy, as well as have good first hand information. It's fun to have a display of beautiful guns out like folks do with classic cars, isn't it? :) Other times I like to be alone or just with the wife to do some testing and/or practice so I'm not shooting my worst in front of others, or doing fine tuning which doesn't need distraction. Shooting clays with friends is great when it's a good day, bad when it's a bad day--if I'm nailing it, I'd sure like to have people see it, but if I'm missing, I don't want people thinking I suck. I think everyone is that way to some degree or another.
