Shooting Table plans needed??

I am building a small 75 yard range in the back of my house. So far everything is going well the only snag is a good set up plans for a shooting bench. I don't want somethign that is all crappy. I want a good solid bench that I can sit and shoot all day long. I could slap something together but would really like to find a good set of plans. That's a good plan hps gave you. I built one in a couple hours in my shop. It's easy to make some personalized changes to. I added a 1"x2" edge around it to stiffen it up some, and made it for strictly RH shooting to give more table top. I plan on building another one and make some additional changes. One being to cut out a 3"x5" hole with a 1/4" plywood to cover the bottom of the hole. That gives a spot for holding shells, maybe another for small tools and such. I'll probably put some indoor/outdoor on the next one too. I may put figure a way to put an easy on, easy off front rest on it too. It's solid little table. One of my shooting buddies backed over it first time out with 4x4. Bent the legs a bit, just straightened them some and went on.

Just remember that a three-legged table will always be stable. It also lends itself better to a Tee-shaped top for when a leftie might use it.

If it's not gonna be portable, buy a 12' treated 4x4 and cut it to thirds. Set each post about 12" to 18" deep. After you've put on a table top, put a 1x4 X-brace across the front two legs. Triangulate with braces from the bottom of the front two legs to the top of the near leg where you sit (doesn't mess up leg room). Use 1/4" lag bolts with large flat washers. Then use deck paint or Thompson's Water Seal.

If you really want to do a nice shooting bench, ask the question over at www.benchrest.com - those folks KNOW shooting benches.

They tend to favor cement tho - which ain't all that difficult if you've got a few friends...
