I've been doing a lot of testing, specifically with 220gr Sierra Pro-Hunters. I am getting better groups in my 16" Blk with longer rounds, but not so much in my 8", they actually seem to be getting better the shorter I go.

What is the shortest, safe OAL for a 220 Sierra Pro-Hunter?

Any info would be appreciated.

Out of curiosity, what kind of groups are you getting with your 16" 300 BLK?

With 110 grain and 125 grain I have been getting around 1.3 to 1.8 inches at 100 yards. I just loaded some 150 grain bullets to try.

I have not used any of the real heavy bullets as I am not going for subsonic loads. So far, I have just seated bullets deep enough for the bullet to clear the internal bead in the front of the magazine.

But, generally, you do not want to seat the bullet deeper than where the ogive starts to reduce the bullet diameter. Otherwise you will lose some neck tension.

I assume that can be done anyway with the 220 grain bullets and still fit in the magazine.

If you do seat the bullet deeper and you are near maximum charge levels, you will want to reduce your powder charge and work it back up again.

What is your purpose of using 220gr? If you are loading them subsonic, then the pressures are generally less than half of 55k PSi to start with. So it is more foregiving on OAL. But max OAL is 2.26.
I seat a 230grainer 2.160 subsonic with my ar.
I don't know if you have a bolt or an ar, but you have to load it to accommodate your rifle. feeding, magazine fit and of course accuracy, etc. This what makes handloading like an art.
