The barrel has been cut down to 20". I need to install a front bead. I have the bit and tap for 6-48. How in the world do I get the hole perfectly top dead center? Ive got a drill press, magnetic levels and the such. I tried it once, thought everything was perfect and the hole was a little off. Im going to weld up the hole and file it smooth to start over. I know I could take it to a smith, but the only round here says 3 month wait!!! Whatever. I figure I can do it my self, theres gotta be some tips and tricks.
. It looked close to center. What I had a problem with was tapping the hole. The threads looked terrible. When I screwed the bead into place it was off center:banghead:. It is brass so I tapped it over with a brass punch and hammer. It looks perfect. Until now no one would have known I bubba'd it up
